Founded in 1978, Brookhaven College is one of the seven colleges of the
Dallas County Community College District, the largest undergraduate institution in the State of Texas.

The college provides affordable freshman- and sophomore-level courses. Many students each year successfully transfer to four-year universities, while others enter directly into the workforce with a technical degree, certificate or skills award.
Tuition averages about $500 per semester for a full-time Dallas County student – $123 for a three-hour credit course. Recent enrollments included approximately 12,000 credit and 8,000 continuing education, or noncredit, students.
Core Curriculum
The Brookhaven College
Core Curriculum allows you to complete your foundational courses and take advantage of our affordable tuition before transferring to a four-year university. The Core Curriculum guarantees the transfer of the Core to any public university or college in Texas, as long as you've completed the entire block and finished with a 2.0 GPA or higher. When you transfer, you will be ahead of the game with at least 48 credit hours to apply toward any major. With just 13 additional credit hours beyond your Core courses, you could earn an Associate's Degree to show prospective employers your commitment to higher education.
Career Technical Education
For students hoping to get on track to a great career, Career Technical Education courses may be the right choice. Brookhaven College offers high-quality and relevant technical, college-level programs that prepare graduates to enter immediately into the workforce. Brookhaven College awards the Associate in Applied Science degree and offers numerous one-year certificate programs and skills awards to prepare students for employment, career change, transfer or advancement.
Continuing Education
Continuing Education courses offer opportunities for personal enrichment and growth. Programs include the
Arts Academy,
certificates,
Corporate Training Solutions,
English for Speakers of Other Languages,
Health Care Careers,
Nonprofit Management and
Teacher Certification. Courses are flexible, affordable and offered for all ages and skill levels.
Workforce Training
Workforce training courses are available for employee development and improvement. Programs include: occupational language training; conversational Spanish; English for Speakers of Other Languages; computer graphics and desktop publishing; cross-cultural training; leadership and supervision skills; personal and executive coaching; and compliance and standards training.
New Buildings and Renovation
Brookhaven College is the home of several unique initiatives and programs. In 2009, the
Science and Allied Health Building opened, boasting 144,000 square feet of space, including general use and multimedia classrooms, wet and dry labs, lecture halls, computer labs, X-ray rooms, an ambulance simulator, intensive care and nursing units, division and faculty offices, adjunct mail and copy rooms, file and storage space and common areas. An expansion for the
Automotive Technology Department space, Building Q, also opened in fall 2009 and included 12,670 square feet of new classroom and workspace, an additional tool room, storage space and a faculty office. A brand new building for workforce and continuing education courses opened in January 2010.
Unique Programs
In fall 2006, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District’s
Early College High School opened, allowing area students to earn high school and college credits simultaneously. The
Head Start Center at Brookhaven College, a preschool for 176 children and a training facility for the college’s child development program, opened in 2007. Also located at Brookhaven College is the
Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute, an organization whose mission is to promote Earth system’s science education and teacher training. The college also offers a unique and comprehensive arts program through its
School of the Arts for college-level art students and the
Arts Academy with innovative arts programming for the whole family.

Academic programs are complemented by a full range of student support services including

student clubs and organizations, and access to computer laboratories.
Presidential Award Winner
Brookhaven College was the only community college among the top six on the 2008 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, which included 635 institutions of higher learning. The Honor Roll's Presidential Award is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
Brookhaven College was recognized for two programs, Brookhaven Counts and Brookhaven Reads, which partner college students with kindergarten through ninth-grade students for math and reading tutoring. In the course of this seven-year program, Brookhaven College students have devoted more than 33,000 service hours to improving reading and math skills of students at partner schools.
Successful Athletic Teams
Brookhaven College boasts four sports teams:
men's baseball,
men's basketball, women's soccer and
women's volleyball. The Lady Bears volleyball team took home the Division III National Championship in 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009 and were National Semi-Finalists in 2006 and 2007. The team was also crowned Metro Athletic Conference Champion every year since 2004.
