Subject: Non-Smoking and Designated Smoking Areas

With the exception of designated parking lots, Brookhaven College is a smoke and tobacco-free campus. This includes but is not limited to the use of chewing tobacco and electronic cigarettes.

Brookhaven College’s smoking policy applies to all employees, students and visitors. All Brookhaven College campus buildings and grounds are non-smoking areas with the exceptions of six parking lots designated for smokers. For questions about the smoking policy, contact the Brookhaven College Police Department, Building B, Room B200 or call 972-860-4290.

The only areas where smoking is permitted are the following parking lots.

  • E-1 Parking Lot
  • E-2 Parking Lot
  • W-1 Parking Lot
  • W-2 Parking Lot
  • S Parking Lot
  • X Parking Lot
Non-Smoking and Designated Smoking Areas

Anyone noticing an individual who is smoking in a non-smoking area may inform the person(s) of the smoke-free policy and refer them to one of the designated parking lots or contact the College Police at 972-860-4290. When an individual who is smoking in a non-smoking area is observed by a college police officer, the officer shall inform the smoker of the policy and request that he/she relocate to one of the designated parking lots.

Policy Enforcement

Should an individual continue to violate the smoking policy after being advised by a police officer that he/she is in violation, the following actions may occur.

  1. In the case of a student, a report shall be written with said violation and the matter referred to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services.
  2. In the case of an employee, a report will be written and the matter referred to his/her supervisor.
  3. In the case of a visitor, the Police Officer will escort the violator off campus and a criminal trespass warning may be issued.
