Employees should refer to the Brookhaven College website for the latest update concerning the college’s closing procedure in case of inclement weather.
In the rare occurrence that weather may cause the immediate closing of the college, relevant information will be posted to the college’s website, broadcast to the major media and disseminated through social media, Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. Brookhaven College’s home Web page will display a notification of any closings, delays or advisories. If there is no notice of changes or delays, then classes are in session as usual. Employees also may refer to announcements on major television and radio stations in the event that the Brookhaven College Internet site is not operational.
Students also can sign up for Brookhaven College Emergency Alerts. This text message, e-mail and phone system alerts them when icy weather cancels classes or in the event of an emergency. The Emergency Alert system allows students and employees to choose their notification method and sends a message when there is an unscheduled evacuation or closure of the college due to weather closures, utility outages, police or other emergencies. Registration for Emergency Alerts is accessible through eConnect.
An inclement weather hotline also is available for students. For closing or late-opening information related to weather, students can call the hotline at 972-860-4200. Recommended hours are from 5:45-6:30 a.m. The employee hotline is at 972-860-4100. To avoid overloading the DCCCD telephone system, a specific time for calls is assigned to Brookhaven College of 5:45-6:15 a.m.
