The Courier, the official student newspaper, at Brookhaven College was created to provide channels for campus communications, to afford outlets for student expression, to record campus activities, and to provide a practical training ground in print journalism, including writing, editing and advertising. With this purpose in mind, college officials are not permitted to review copy prior to distribution for censorship purposes; nor may they remove editors or advisors because of student, faculty, administrative or public disapproval of editorial decisions. Brookhaven College assumes no liability for the content of any student publication, nor do any thoughts or ideas, either expressed or implied by the writer/editor, in The Courier, necessarily represent those of the administration, faculty, or student body of Brookhaven College. Student journalists are encouraged to recognize that with editorial control comes the responsibility to follow professional standards--guidelines provided by the Student Press Law Center and guidelines established by the journalism faculty and staff (Brookhaven Courier Student Newspaper and Supplemental Publications Guidelines, 2002-2003), and to be aware of the publication limitations addressed in the policy established by the Dallas County Community College District, Student Publications, FKA http://www.tasb.org/policy/pol/private/057501/LPM/FKA(H)-PJC.html |
