Subject: Reporting Substantive Change

It is the responsibility of Brookhaven College to follow the substantive change procedures of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Colleges and inform the Commission of such changes.

In order to ensure compliance with the SACSCOC's requirement to submit timely notification of a substantive change, the following requirements must be met locally.

  1. It is the responsibility of the owning instructional division to notify immediately the College's Office of the SACS Liaison of any new or revised program or initiative that may result in the need for a substantive change.
  2. Refer to the Commission on College's Policy on Substantive Change for timetables for specific substantive changes.

Examples of academic program substantive changes that must be reported to the Commission on Colleges include, but are not linited to the following.

  • Initiating off-campus sites in which students can obtain 25 percent or more of an award's credits
  • Initiating distance learning in which students can obtain 25 percent or more of an award's credits
  • Adding significantly different programs at an approved site
  • Altering significantly the educational mission of the institution
  • Altering significantly the length of a program
  • Initiating new academic programs
  • Closing a program
