RecycleMania 2014: Preseason Begins!

RecycleMania 2014: Preseason Begins!

Are your empty soda cans and water bottles at the ready? Are your grocery sacks neatly prepped and tied together? If not, you better get a move on! This week marks the beginning of pre-season for RecycleMania 2014 and Brookhaven College is in the running once again.

RecycleMania is an opportunity for colleges and universities all over the country to come together and achieve a common goal: Recycle! Friendly competition over an eight-week period promotes a surge of recycling and waste reduction that makes for a happier and healthier environment. Last year, 3.5 million students and staff recycled and composted over 90 million pounds of material!

The competition officially begins Feb. 2 and ends March 29. Your part is easy: drop all your recyclable materials in the blue bins around campus. The school that collects the most wins bragging rights and a trophy! Not sure what qualifies as a recyclable material? You may have more opportunities to recycle than you realize:

  • Just finished moving? Recycle the boxes and packing paper.
  • Cleaning out your desk? Shred then recycle your old used paper.
  • Finished with that 24-pack of Diet Coke? Recycle the empty cans and cardboard box.
  • About to throw something away? Think twice: it’s possible the item can be recycled.

In addition to hundreds of colleges throughout the country, Brookhaven College is also competing against sister colleges Cedar Valley, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland. Let’s bring home that trophy! For more information about the competition, visit Recyclemaniacs.org
