"Little Women," Big Stage

Release Date June 25

Theatre Brookhaven will put music to a touching classic this summer with “Little Women: The Musical.”

“Little Women” is the melodramatic tale of four sisters — brassy, tomboy-like, aspiring writer Jo, romantic Meg, pretentious Amy and kind-hearted Beth — and their lives in Concord, Mass. With their father serving as chaplain for the Union Army during the Civil War, the young women are raised by their beloved mother, Marmee. Intercut with the main story are several recreations of the short stories written by Jo in her attic studio.

Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, the musical book was written by Allan Knee, with lyrics by Mindi Dickstein and music by Jason Howland. “Little Women: The Musical” is directed by Darise Error, professor.

Performances are June 27-29 and July 5 and 6 at 8 p.m., and June 30 and July 7 at 2:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall.
