Community Engagement - A closing ceremony on July 25th celebrated the projects completed by students in the fourth annual Brookhaven College Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program (TexPREP). A total of 62 students participated in the program, with two sections of PREP Year 1 and one section of PREP Year 2. Adriana Gomez, TexPREP director at Brookhaven College, welcomed parents and highlighted a few of the projects. Students, their parents and college administrators viewed a video presentation which featured several activities that were part of the students' work during the rigorous program, including solar ovens, bottle rocket launchers and a roller coaster project designed by students from PREP Year 2. Brookhaven College's Marilyn Lynch, associate vice president of career and program resources, offered remarks and Doris Rousey, executive dean of science and mathematics, also attended the ceremony. Students who exhibited mastery of the objectives with passing grades will receive an elective high school credit. (Participants in TexPREP are students from middle schools and high schools from Dallas ISD and surrounding districts, including Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Coppell, Allen and Frisco, as well as several private schools.)
