Spring Concerts Top Handbell Festivals

Spring Concerts Top Handbell Festivals

Thousands of bells will ring out at the annual Brookhaven College spring handbell festival April 28. The festival brings together hundreds of handbell ringers from Texas and Oklahoma for a full day of clinics and rehearsal. The first festival was April 21, but you have a chance to see the ringers at the close of the April 28 festival, at 4 p.m. in the Gymnasium, Building T.

The Brookhaven College School of the Arts hosts the festivals each spring with the college’s Handbell Ensemble. The Greater Dallas Handbell Association and American Guild of English Handbell Ringers sponsor the event. Nationally and internationally known performance arts instructor Tim Waugh is the conductor for the festival. Waugh chairs the music department and fine arts division at Pike View High School. He uses fun and innovative techniques to teach rhythm and coordination.

The Brookhaven College Handbell Ensemble includes members from around the Metroplex. The group performs locally, regionally and has performed even internationally at festivals, conferences and concerts from Dallas to Oklahoma to Paris, France. Bonnie Riddle, director of the ensemble, has taught credit and noncredit handbell courses at Brookhaven College since 1980.

For more information about the Brookhaven College Handbell Ensemble, please contact Bonnie Riddle, director, at the Brookhaven College School of the Arts at ext. 4730.
