“Horrors” to Bring Big Laughs to Brookhaven College

How can a carnivorous plant bring together an unlikely couple? Theatre Brookhaven presents “Little Shop of Horrors" as this year’s summer musical June 28-July 8 so the audience can find the answer.

An unusual plant, bent on world domination, brings fame and fortune to a skid row floral shop and Seymour, the nerdy floral assistant. The plant at the center of the play is Audrey II, named for Seymour’s fellow assistant and love interest. Audrey II feeds on blood and sings R & B. Add in a sadistic dentist and songs like “Suddenly Seymour,” “Somewhere That's Green” and “Little Shop Of Horrors,” and the production never fails to entertain.

The play is well known for its outstanding musical score and a successful film version. “Little Shop of Horrors,” written by Howard Ashman with composer Alan Menken, is one of the longest running off-Broadway shows of all time. The production is directed by Michael A. Robinson, choreography is by Les Jordan and Rodger Bennett, executive dean for the School of the Arts, is this production's musical director.

Shows are June 28-30 and July 6-7 at 8 p.m., and July 1 and 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the School of the Arts Performance Hall in Building C. General admission is $15; student and senior adults are $10. Tickets are available at the School of the Arts Box Office at ext. 4118. Box Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 3 p.m.
