At the May 2 Planning and Budget meeting, cost center managers were given the opportunity to present their justification for additional personnel in 2008. A total of 14 requests were presented to the committee.
As presented, the 14 requests total an estimated $442,029. There are funds remaining available in the 2008 budget for new personnel. In the course of the discussions, Juanita Flint, executive dean for Health and Human Services, agreed to postpone the part-time to full-time conversion of the EMS director to allow the college to pursue an associate dean, distance learning visiting administrator position. The group learned that three of the requested positions were also part-time to full-time conversions and that existing part-time budgets were available to supplement the 2008 funds.
The President’s Cabinet met to discuss the personnel requests at its May 15 meeting. George Herring, vice president of business services, presented a list of the 14 requests, and the PCAB unanimously agreed to fund all positions. Since funding was available for all positions, it was not necessary for the PCAB to prioritize the list.
Cost center managers are approved to proceed with preparing a notice of vacancy for positions in their respective areas. This approval comes with the clear understanding that funds for these positions are not available until September. Actual hiring is to be timed to begin on or about Sept. 1, 2007. All 2008 budgets were adjusted accordingly prior to final input on May 17 to reflect the new positions or increased part-time amounts.
The positions approved include:
