EMGI Adds Professional Seminars for Summer

The Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute has added an array of seminars with featured speakers this summer. From training for teachers to professional development, the EMGI has a special event planned almost bi-weekly to carry out its mission of promoting Earth science education. For teachers, the EMGI has planned “Mapping Our World: GIS Lessons for Educators,” in July and “More! Rocks In Your Head,” in August. For professionals, “Petroleum Source Rocks 101,” will cover information on how oil and gas are generated and how to measure organic carbon content. “An Introduction to Petrophysics,” offers details of well logging measurements and basic log interpretation methods. Additional details on all of these seminars are available on the EMGI Web site.

Deer Oaks Newsletters Always Available Online

The Human Resources Office has added the Deer Oaks monthly newsletter to the employee intranet so these materials can be accessible to employees all the time. Deer Oaks is the district’s Employee/Dependent Assistance Program, EDAP, provider. Each newsletter contains information about topics related to work and life. For supervisors, the topics focus on workplace morale, employee relations and various other issues. For employees, there is a variety of topics addressed from finance to health to parenting, depending on the issue. Deer Oaks, as the district’s EDAP, provides employees and their dependents with six pre-paid counseling sessions per problem incident. Find PDF versions of the newsletter on the intranet under “Resources” or here.
