Joey Huey was a long-time educator and coach and those who knew him while he was an assistant coach at Brookhaven College will miss his spirit and sense of humor. When he passed away on Aug. 17, he had spent more than 50 years in Dallas as a teacher and basketball coach.
Huey taught and coached at Spence Junior High and Sunset High School, but is known best to Brookhaven and Richland colleges as an assistant coach for both basketball teams. He was an assistant for Chester Story's Richland College team that won the 1999 NJCAA Division III title.
In 2006, Mr. Huey required full-time nursing care after a heart attack and stroke. In addition to his wife, Mr. Huey is survived by daughters Jane Huey of Dallas, Jody Rindfleisch of Dallas, and Jill Rose of Tyler; sisters Jan Clark of Tupelo, Miss., and Marjorie Crane of Memphis; brother, Howard Huey of West Memphis, Ark.; and four grandchildren.
