Live and Learn Green - Lighting Pays Off

Green Team

Over the past year Brookhaven College facilities staff replaced mercury vapor lighting in the gym and weight room with T5 energy efficient lighting, and retrofitted 200 fixtures in Student Services Center, Building S. The cost of replacement was earned back in energy savings within six months, and we continue to reap the benefits.

Mark your calendar for this Green event:

Dr. Eric J. Barron, dean of the Jackson School of Geosciences at University of Texas-Austin, will lecture on "The Changing Debate on Global Warming," Oct. 24 at noon in Room K234. This program is sponsored by the Brookhaven College Green Team, adjunct professor Mike Lobel, whose government class will host the event, and geology professor Susan Maxey.

Dr. Barron began his career in geology as an undergrad at Florida State University and broadened his studies to oceanography for his graduate work at University of Miami. Postdoctoral fellowships led him to climate and atmospheric research. He was at Penn State from 1985 until he joined UT in 2006. His background and leadership at the intersection of geological and atmospheric sciences is extensive. To learn more go to http://www.jsg.utexas.edu/about/leaders/barron.html.

This important topic is of interest to many. Faculty members, if you wish to bring a class to Room K234, call Carrie Schweitzer at ext. 4848.
