Groundbreaking Set For New Science and Allied Health Facilities

Groundbreaking Set For New Science and Allied Health Facilities

Brookhaven College will have a community forum and groundbreaking for the new Science and Allied Health Building on Feb. 15. The forum, open to the public, begins at 10 a.m. in the college’s Performance Hall.

Members of the community, guests and employees are invited to see a 45-minute bond program update and then walk to the north side of Building K for the groundbreaking ceremony.

Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Wright L. Lassiter Jr., chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, Dr. Sharon L. Blackman, president of Brookhaven College, and others. Everyone is invited to attend a collegewide luncheon back in the Performance Hall Lobby after the ceremonies are completed.

The new building is one of three new and expanded facilities supported by the citizens of Dallas County in a May 2004 bond election. The new building will be home to the college’s allied health programs as well as new facilities for chemistry and biology programs. The new structure will add more than 140,000 square feet to the campus which will include new general use and multimedia classrooms, wet and dry labs, lecture halls, computer labs, X-ray rooms, ICU and nursing units, employee offices, and commons areas to support those programs. Adjacent to the Science and Allied Health Building, a new parking lot section will be added providing approximately 350 parking spaces.
