Thank You Notes

Thank You Notes

The following note was sent to the college as a thank you for the Brookhaven Student Government Association’s efforts collecting items for the Angel Tree.

Dear Dr. Blackman:

On behalf of the women and children at Genesis Women’s Shelter, thank your college for your kind donation this holiday season.

It is hard for some of us to imagine leaving our homes, our holiday traditions and everything we know to find safety and shelter at Genesis. However, every day there are courageous women in search of freedom from abuse who want safety for themselves and their children more than anything else. They come to Genesis for support, for counseling, and for peace. Your generous donation makes that peace possible.

The children who come to Genesis this holiday season will wake up on Christmas morning to find that Santa knew where they were all along. The mothers who are nervous about providing gifts for their children are relieved to know that someone cared enough about their situation to help. Your kindness makes the miracles possible at Genesis!

Your donation certainly makes a difference in the lives of so many women and children and we are grateful for it. On behalf of those amazing women and children who will sleep safely at Genesis Women’s Shelter tonight, thank you! You make the difference!

What an amazing effort! We were speechless to find all the donations!

Sincerely,
Leona Barnes
Volunteer and Donations Coordinator

This note was sent to Doris Rousey, executive dean of the Mathematics and Science Division.

Mrs. Rousey,

I just wanted to tell you how great my experience in the science department at Brookhaven College has been. I moved to Dallas this past February. I graduated from the University of Memphis in 2004. I have a love for the sciences but I got very discouraged with the science department at Memphis. I actually even gave up sciences for at year (I began to think that it wasn’t for me). The teachers were so unfriendly and impersonal, not to mention that the University of Memphis always had something wrong with overcrowding classes or scheduling. I would spend more time worried about my class schedule (trying to make sure I get the classes I need because of limited ability more than I could focus on the class I was taking during the current semester). I know this sounds silly, not to mention ridiculous! But it is the truth.

I have been so happy with Brookhaven, especially the science department, I have never attended a community college before so I didn’t know what to expect. I have had Dr. Peggy Mason and Terry Canaris for microbiology and Dr. Andrea Bailey for genetics. I took an upper division class in microbiology at the University of Memphis and it was completely different that what I took at Brookhaven. I learned 110% more at Brookhaven than I did at Memphis. The lab itself was incredible and was a great hands-on experience.

This semester I took genetics with Dr. Andrea Bailey. She is a wonderful and very knowledgeable teacher. She taught the class things that were not in our textbook. I always appreciate that because it shows me the teacher really understands their subject.

She is a very smart woman who wants to make sure you learn the material. I know the class size was small but I think the class as a whole benefited from that a lot more than if we had a class of 30 students. The students as well as Dr. Bailey were able to have open discussions on specific reading assignments. The students gave their point of view and Dr. Bailey gave hers. Her knowledge in genetics is very abundant (she is like a walking textbook filled with all sorts of great facts and information).

The labs were very tedious, not because they are hard (they were challenging don’t get me wrong) –they just required a lot of organization and careful assessment. The students in the class all agreed that this class was one of the most interesting classes that we had taken. This class really had an impact on my life when speaking from a genetics point of view. I just wanted to say I appreciate the science teachers at Brookhaven and I look forward to taking more classes.

Sincerely,
Hollie L. Williams

Laurey Lynch, information specialist and orientation coordinator, sent a thank you on to everyone who helped with the upgrade for the eConnect Room in the Student Services Center.

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! All the guys (David, David, James, James, Andrew, Quinn and Dawn) did a fantastic job of setting up the new computers for eConnect and orientation in record speed! As usual, you folks are the best! Thanks again!

Adding in her own note was Brenda Dalton, dean of student success.

Yes, thank you to all of you for setting up the new computers in S062. It was a real team effort and very impressive to those observing the work. You are the best!

Dave Reagan, director of Police, received this e-mail concerning one of his officers from Linda Long, coordinator and speech professor, at North Lake College.

Dear Chief Reagan,

I want to commend your officer, Walter Hannah for his graciousness and the much needed help that he gave to me last Friday when I was attending a meeting at Brookhaven College. It was raining, and my car got stuck on the concrete barrier in a handicapped parking space in front of Building S. This necessitated Officer Hannah jacking up my car in order to get if off of the piece of concrete.

Unbeknownst to him, I am suffering from stage four cancer of the spine and I could never have done this by myself. His caring and helpful attitude makes him an "angel" in my estimation. By the way, I was only a few minutes late to my meeting.

Linda J. Long, Ed.D.
coordinator and professor of speech communication

Chief Reagan also added his own thank you and congratulations.

Ms. Long,

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. Walter would never come in and talk about something he did for a DCCCD employee; therefore I would not have known about him helping you.

Your gracious remarks about his performance will be placed in his personnel file. I'm glad we were able to assist you at this time; this is why we are here, among other things.

George Herring, vice president of business services, also added a note.

WOW! Way to go, Walter. Thank you for your dedication to customer service and your willingness to go WAY beyond the call of duty to help Ms. Long. I appreciate and applaud your ongoing commitment to the success of Brookhaven College.

Another employee had a special thank you for going above and beyond for customer service.

Just wanted to let you know what a great guy Michael Trubinsky was this afternoon. He obviously went way beyond the limits of helping someone out. I think he showed up only to see if this vendor needed a ladder and subsequently spent the next productive hour and a half helping this vendor to come up with a solution that would cost us less money and make it easier for the vendor to complete the project of running a very thick cable from our newly relocated upgraded dish to the Dispatch Center.

I just wanted to acknowledge his actions as being more than professional and much more than just helpful. I believe he deserves at least a pat on the back for his actions. Don't tell him I said so but he provided the utmost in customer service for this State vendor and ultimately for myself as well.

Do tell him thank you for me if you will. Thank you so much! Oh yeah, if he's in a good mood then remind him about those wrist rests that I'm waiting on. Thanks once again m'dear!

police communications supervisor
