Take Care of Business Week is March 24-28. It's time to encourage students to ensure that they are ready to register for the summer or fall semesters. Each semester, the college coordinates a week focused on removing any blocks for students who will soon be registering for courses. This year, there are some new additions to TCoB Week.
Al Davis and Edeleu Florendo, academic advisors, have put together a Majors Fair March 26 and 27. Each day in the Student Services Center lobby, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., students can meet with advisors to explore and discover potential university transfer majors and career paths. The goal is to answer the question, 'what can I do with my major?' Door prizes and refreshments should attract students while the information about career paths and fields of study should get them prepared for their next educational step.
The Scholarships/Financial Aid Office is having a Financial Aid Fair on March 27 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Student Services Center, Bldg. S Lobby. Lenders will be available to talk to students about all the possibilities for funding their education.
Within the Instructional Support and Outreach Services Office is the Special Services Department. Special Services is responsible for many programs that assist students as they pursue their academic goals. Child care for single parents had been one service offered, but the facility that the offices used has closed. With the Head Start Center at the college, there are low-cost child care services available to those who qualify for their services. The college does not currently have a contract with any other service to provide child care for students.

The Human Resources Office has added the Deer Oaks monthly newsletter to the employee intranet so these materials can be accessible to employees all the time. For supervisors, the topics focus on workplace morale, employee relations and various other issues. For employees, there is a variety of topics addressed from finance to health to parenting, depending on the issue. Deer Oaks, as the district’s EDAP, provides employees and their dependents with six pre-paid counseling sessions per problem incident.
