Conference Day Brings Campus Together

Conference Day Brings Campus Together

By and large, the responses to this year’s Conference Day have been great. Though the colleges’ weren’t able to all gather for a single event this year, each location had individual programs at their own sites. Everyone shared the district awards presentation and celebrations of the Piper nominees by video.

Brookhaven College brought together a group of presenters based on suggestions from faculty and staff members. From gardening to humor to financial planning and more, the survey responses confirm that almost everyone found workshops and seminars that they could enjoy.

From breakfast it was straight to seminars and many enjoyed the presentation on servant leadership offered by Joy Bailey, program director for workforce and continuing education.

Others learned life-saving techniques in a CPR course. Nita Drescher, communications professor, and Harlan Holiner, who works parttime in information technology, both went to work on these dummies to get a real feel for what is required to perform CPR on a person.

At lunch, Dr. Sharon L. Blackman, college president, gave a short welcome and thanks to everyone who attended before the video presentations of the awards ceremonies from the week before.

Many chose to round out their day with some fun and community at the karaoke stage coordinated by the Fun Factor committee members. To get the ball rolling Sam Govea, visiting administrator for distance education, put on the glasses to complete his Elvis look even if he missed a few notes in his performance. There were many willing to take the stage. Claude Caffee, retiring vice president for student development, even wore the vest and hat that Tarilynn Wall brought for her performance when he sang “Your Cheatin’ Heart.”
