International Day Reminds Student of Home

International Day Costumes

Costumes and customs were featured at the International Day celebrations on April 9 at Brookhaven College. The Commons Courtyard featured more than a dozen different tables and represented the home countries of the college’s many international students. The International Club sponsored the event and coordinated activities throughout the afternoon. A Chinese Lion Dance troupe, flamenco and Turkic dancers performed and the African Student Organization offered visitors tastes of Ethiopian food.

An international fashion show gave more than 30 students an opportunity to showoff their native traditional dress. Sheri Van Court and Kevin París are the advisors for the International Club. There were more than 110 nonresident or alien students fall 2007 and more than 800 students paying out of country tuition. The number of international students at the college fluctuates from year to year, but if the participation of students in the International Day events is an indicator, the community of international students will continue to grow.
