Spring Theatre Performances Present One-Act Plays

1 Acts

The Brookhaven Players examine a range of topics with a series of one-act plays in performances April 24-May 4 in the Arena Theatre. The plays are “No Exit,” by Jean-Paul Sartre and adapted from the French by Paul Bowles; “Cowboys #2,” by Sam Shepard; and “Pvt. Wars,” by James McClure.

“No Exit” tells the story of three people who discover the drawing room they are in is in truth a room in hell. What awaits them is an eternity spent in this room together; they have been put together to torment each other. “Cowboys #2” alternates between past and present to examine civilizations assault on the land and people. Three psychiatric patients in a veterans’ hospital during the 1970s are the focus of “Pvt. Wars.” The men have been voluntarily committed, and their everyday life and interaction occasionally evolves into deep, sympathetic perceptions of broken, frightened and desperately lonely individuals.

Due to the subject matter and strong language, this presentation may be offensive to and unsuitable for some audience members.

Performances are April 25-26 and May 1-3 at 8 p.m., and April 27 and May 4 at 2:30 p.m. in the School of the Arts Arena Theatre in Building C. General admission is $8; student and senior adults are $6. Tickets are available at the School of the Arts Box Office at ext. 4118. Box Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
