Hamburgers and hot dogs were on the grill in the courtyard between Buildings D and F for an end-of-term cook-out. The cook-out served as the reception for the Juried Student Art Show in the Forum Gallery, and as a congratulations party for several students who are transferring to four-year schools.

From hundreds of submissions, 98 works of art were selected for this year's Juried Art Student Exhibition. The exhibit includes works in art metals, ceramics, two- and three-dimensional design, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Ten of the pieces were selected by the full-time art faculty members for the Brookhaven College Permanent Art Collection. Juror’s Awards were given to the following artists, chosen by Noah Simblist.
There were 24 students recognized at the reception as well, each of whom will be transferring to complete bachelor's degree programs as varied as the University of North Texas, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Iowa and many others. Three students are moving on to begin their Master of Fine Arts or Master of Arts programs.

One student stands out as a transfer; Will Smith earned a $35,000 scholarship to the Rhode Island Institute of Design. Will graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and has spent three years at Brookhaven College studying fine arts. He plans to continue toward his Bachelor of Fine Arts at RISD, focusing on illustration. With the help of financial aid, transferring credits and the scholarship, Will said his time at RISD should be covered.
