Mesquite Symphony

Featuring beautiful guitar pieces, the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra returns to Brookhaven College on Sept. 20 in the Student Services Center at 8 p.m., for a concert featuring soloist, Rodger Bennett. For the fourth year, the orchestra teams with the college, this time with featured soloist, Bennett, interim vice president for instruction, for performances in Mesquite as well as the concert at the college.

The program will feature the works of Mario Casteluovo-Tedesco. His “Concerto in D for Guitar and Orchestra” was dedicated to Andres Segovia, who gave its premier performance in Montevideo.

Bennett served as the executive dean of the School of the Arts, Athletics, PE and Nutrition for more than 15 years and he has taught music for more than 20 years at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Temple University, and Brookhaven College. He has performed extensively in Mexico, throughout the United States, and in Korea, Canada, England, Ireland, Austria and Romania as a guitar soloist. Bennett has presented music lectures and demonstrations for the Texas Music Educators Association; Texas Association of Music Schools; Texas Junior College Teachers’ Association; the Amarillo Performing Arts, Amarillo, Texas; George Mason University, Fairfax, Va.; and the Rotary Club International Conference, Seoul, South Korea
