New Platform Coming For ACCUPLACER

From the Office of the Vice President for Business Services

Beginning in spring 2009, ACCUPLACER®, a registered assessment tool of the College Board, Inc., will be supported by a new Internet-based platform called ACCUPLACER i3, that was created by Pearson Education. Pearson is the largest comprehensive provider of educational assessment products, services and solutions worldwide. The ACCUPLACER team at College Board, Inc. has been working closely with Pearson to design, develop and deploy a robust, customized platform based on extensive feedback.

The Brookhaven College Information Technology team members are certain their expertise will translate into a stable, high-performing platform with excellent customer service to meet our needs. Changes to the program are still in progress and as it gets closer to the completion date, more information will be available. Testing coordinators and support personnel are encouraged to attend the National ACCUPLACER conference in June 2009.

For more than 20 years, the ACCUPLACER program has been the leading innovator in meeting placement testing needs. We are excited about ACCUPLACER i3 and look forward to our partnership with Pearson to provide us with even more new and innovative services.

ACCUPLACER i3, the third Internet-based platform, will maintain the same general functionality of the current system, while offering more features and flexibility. The move will begin in early 2009 and conclude by June 30, 2009. ACCUPLACER i3 will have a look and feel very similar to the current system, and we anticipate only a minor learning curve. To ensure a smooth transfer, ample training and assistance will be made available.

The way it stands now, effective June 30 at midnight, the contract expires with the former platform provider, Vantage Learning. It is probable that we will not be able to access any archived information (i.e., scores) after that date. As of July 1, 2009, we will have access ONLY to the i3 version. The College Board, Inc. is in the process of getting this deadline extended to Sept. 30 through fall registration.

The IT Department will be working to be sure that we have all data downloaded and archived on our own server so we will still have access to previous test scores.
