Dr. Lassiter
I had a very productive initial meeting with the presidential search committee on Nov. 4. We have assembled an outstanding assembly of faculty, staff and administrative community members.
I informed the committee that I have, obviously, been very close to operations of the college, and that Richard McCrary and I have an excellent working relationship. I attend all of the major staff meetings and Richard and I communicate with one another daily.
The current “mood” of the college is most encouraging, and I am extremely pleased with the working relationship that exists with the senior executives.
Based on all of the foregoing I informed the committee that it would be in the best interests of the college if I delayed the search process until next summer (late August). There was unanimous agreement with that course of action. The initiation of a search process for a chief executive has the normal reaction of raising the “expectancy and anxiety level” of an organization, which can impede the recovery and growth process.
Dr. McCrary also has agreed to continue our working relationship as it now exists.
As you know, it is my practice to practice openness, transparency and full communication. I send this message to the college community in conformity with those principles.
My thanks to the entire college for what you are doing, collectively, to make Brookhaven a truly “great” college.
