Workforce Training Focus Of New Facility

Workforce Training Focus Of New Facility

Brookhaven College welcomed representatives from the local business community, the City of Farmers Branch and the college’s construction partners at groundbreaking ceremonies for a new Workforce and Continuing Education building on Jan. 16.

The new building will house programs for workforce training and continuing education. The center will encompass more than 27,000 square feet, offering multi-use classrooms and office space for the college’s Workforce and Continuing Education Division. The facility will be added to the east side of the college, near Alpha Road.

“This building will allow us the space and functionality to expand our services in our community,” said Vernon Hawkins, associate vice president of workforce and continuing education. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with our local businesses to add training opportunities for their employees, and to add continuing education and personal enrichment programs for our community.”

The citizens of Dallas County approved a 2004 bond election to fund expansion and new facilities throughout the Dallas County Community College District. Brookhaven College received funds to build a workforce and continuing education center, a new allied health and science building and to expand the automotive technology facilities. The Workforce and Continuing Education Division of the college expects to be able to begin use of the new center in early 2010.
