Conference Day Committee Wants Your Opinion

There’s a survey in place to gather opinions on the 2009 Conference Day. You can take just a minute to give an overall impression or go through each of the sessions you attended and let the committee know what you liked and what you didn’t. Just follow this link to the evaluation, and while you are thinking of conference day look ahead to 2010. Add a few comments and share your preferences to help next year's team at the District Staff and Organizational Development Office.

Astronomy Event Upcoming In April

This year marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s telescope and 2009 has been designated the International Year of Astronomy. To celebrate, a worldwide star party called 100 Hours of Astronomy is planned from April 2-5. The astronomy department at Brookhaven College will be participating and everyone is invited to join this global event. Telescopes will be set up for the public on April 2 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and for solar observing on April 3 from 10 a.m. to noon. Please call 972-860-4653 or 972-860-4301 for the location.

Deer Oaks Newsletters Always Available Online

The Human Resources Office has added the Deer Oaks monthly newsletter to the employee intranet so these materials can be accessible to employees all the time. Deer Oaks is the district’s Employee/Dependent Assistance Program, EDAP, provider. Each newsletter contains information about topics related to work and life. For supervisors, the topics focus on workplace morale, employee relations and various other issues. For employees, there is a variety of topics addressed from finance to health to parenting, depending on the issue. Deer Oaks, as the district’s EDAP, provides employees and their dependents with six pre-paid counseling sessions per problem incident. Find Out What Is Being Decided

If you have want to gain a better understanding of the process that ideas and decisions at the college pass through on their way to action, take a moment to review the notes available online from different committee meetings. A full section of the intranet focuses solely on the minutes and notes from the various committees that meet at the college on a regular basis. Find meeting minutes for the President’s Extended Cabinet, there are online meeting notes added for this and other meetings.
