Conference Day at Brookhaven College seems to have been a strong success according to feedback to date. Months of planning
and some long days of hard work paid off for all the employees who helped coordinate this year’s event.
From food to finance to fitness, the presentations offered fun and education to employees throughout the day. Monica Taliaferro,
director of marketing, headed this year’s conference committee for a second year with programming co-chairs Sheri Van Court,
professor of ESOL, and Vicki DeFord, student support coordinator, and help from more than 50 employees. Since many of them
were here early to help setup and stayed late to cleanup, someone should ask if they got that extra money John Williams offered.
This year’s event began with brief remarks from John,
event emcee and psychology professor, who introduced recorded comments from
the chancellor as well as highlights from the District Awards Program. Some
employees departed early on the first field trip of the day for “Retracing
the Steps of Lee Harvey Oswald” through the Dallas Historical Society,
while others spent their afternoon at the Fort Worth Museum of Art.
For those who stayed at the college there were sessions on everything ranging from team-building to cupcake decorating, coping
with change, to changing your wardrobe, or human migration to going green. The college also welcomed Bob Ferguson, DCCCD
trustee, for a presentation focusing on how to build community in a business by looking beyond differences.
