Graduations and Celebrations

Graduations and Celebrations

The final few weeks of the spring semester are always a busy time with all the normal effort and events that close out any semester, along with the hustle and bustle of the all those extra events that accompany the official send-off for so many of our students.

Ceremonies for Commencement at the college are set for May 14 at Loos Field House at 7 p.m. The Automotive Technology Department has already had dinners and ceremonies to recognize graduates from the Ford ASSET and General Motors ASEP programs. The Ford graduation dinner, on May 6, recognized 13 students for completing their associate degree program, and the Ford Service Technician Specialty Training, STST, necessary to perform warranty service. The GM dinner recognized 10 students for completing the ASEP training to earn their associate degrees.

The Graduation party, planned each year by Student Programs And Resources, brought out a good crowd of students and employees. Barbecue, caricatures, live music and a fire-breather made for a great party.

Rodger Bennett and Elaine Gardner-Morales

Many in the college also came together to celebrate Jerry Hill and Elaine Gardner-Morales, faculty members, who will retire this year. Rodger Bennett, interim vice president of instruction and former dean of the School of the Arts, shared stories about performances and travel with Elaine. Sandy Wyche, executive dean of business studies, spoke about Jerry. He shared comments students had made about Jerry; the students’ words emphasized Jerry’s kindness and commitment to their success.
