Allocation Allows for Five Campus Projects

A committee recently met to review proposals for the use of Chancellor Wright Lassiter's allocation of $26,673 to Brookhaven College's operating budget.

Last fall Brookhaven College employees generously pledged $53,346 to the State Employees Charitable Campaign. Because the pledges met and surpassed the fundraising goal, Lassiter allocated money to the college from district funds for use on special projects.

The SECC, created in 1993, offers employees of state agencies, colleges and universities the chance to donate to charities through an annual workplace giving campaign. Each year, committee members spend a month encouraging employees to donate to their choice of one (or more) of hundreds of different charities.

The chancellor has consistently matched a portion of the funds employees donate with dollars from the district to support special projects at the college. Each spring, proposals are submitted to the committee formed from SECC and Budgeting and Planning committee members.

A committee composed of George Herring, Blanca Klingensmith, Valerie Martin, Carrie Schweitzer, Bob Smith and Monica Wenthold met recently to review the 11 proposals received from the college community about how to spend the Chancellor's allocation. The committee recommended five proposals to the President's Cabinet. All five proposals were accepted, and work will begin on these projects in the coming weeks.

The projects include: two gas grills for student and employee events, door mats installed at buildings' major entrances, wall painting and welcome installation in Building S, a memorial garden and a xeriscape garden.

Total cost for the projects is $24,534.

Allocation Allows for Five Campus Projects

Thanks to the Chancellor's recent allocation of $26,673 to Brookhaven College’s operating budget, the campus will soon have a welcome wall installed in Building S, similar to this one at Children's Medical Center.
