Campus Gets Facelift

Campus Gets Facelift

Building X, the Science and Allied Health Building, is nearing completion. It is scheduled to open in early August.

This summer has marked the beginning, midpoint and ending for different portions of a major makeover for the Brookhaven College campus.

Campus now has a new entryway at Valley View Lane, and soon, Building K will be remodeled and two new structures will be open for business — the Science and Allied Health Building and the automotive facility Q Building expansion. There are even walls going up on the Workforce and Continuing Education Building.

Tommy Gallegos, director of facilities, said that despite the recent hot weather, progress on the new Valley View entrance was not delayed. The project, which was scheduled to open Aug. 1, was finished ahead of schedule and opened July 10.

The foundation has set and steel standing has been erected on the WCE building. Substantial progress should take place over the new few weeks, Gallegos said.

Areas around Building K are marked off for construction. Once Building K staff is relocated to the new Science and Allied Health Building, the foundation will be repaired and the plaza between buildings C and K will be demolished and replaced.

The new Science and Allied Health building, Building X, is on schedule to be completed by the first week of August, Gallegos said, and facilities will begin moving the nursing and EMS programs into the first floor July 20.

Once the move into Building X is completed and all staff members have been relocated, the Building K foundation repair project will begin. This project is tentatively scheduled for the first part of September, Gallegos said.
