Michael Deason is the new director of information technology.
I would like to take this opportunity and introduce myself to you; I am the new director of information technology.
I have been in the technology world for more than 25 years in the area of computer and network support, computer teaching and IT administration. During my career in the IT arena, one thing I have repeatedly seen is that technology is guaranteed to bring changes, hopefully for the better.
Obviously, technology is woven into our everyday lives, and even us "tech guys" have frustrations and struggles with new technology from time to time.
Technology continues to advance and find its way into our lives and most importantly, our student's lives, so we need to be able to embrace and learn new technology. Along with the changes that accompany new technology, also comes flexibility.
As my wise grandfather use to say, "Either we adapt to change or we get left behind."
Looking back to the 1800s, students had to use pencils without erasers. I remember a time when I had to get off the couch and change the channel on the television. Or you may remember when a PDA, personal digital assistant, did not have a phone integrated within the product.
In today's world of change, it is difficult to find a pencil without an eraser, a television without a remote or a PDA without an integrated phone.
I want to be a part in preparing our students to be successful in today's dynamic technology world. As the director of information technology, I am continuing to build my team of technicians, so we can better serve the campus labs and classrooms and meet the continuously changing technology needs of the campus.
I look forward in working to bring new technology to the college for the students, faculty and staff to help achieve Brookhaven College's mission of being dedicated to student success.
