Richard McCrary
In an effort to reduce emissions and fight global warming, Brookhaven College interim president Richard McCrary has joined college presidents across the country in signing the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment.
The commitment recognizes the gravity of global warming and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050.
By signing the commitment, McCrary agreed to develop a comprehensive plan to achieve climate neutrality on campus, initiate two or more tangible reductions in greenhouse gases, and make plans, inventory and progress reports related to this commitment publicly available.
According to the commitment, addressing climate change will benefit the college by stabilizing and reducing long-term energy costs, attracting students and faculty, attracting new sources of funding and increasing support from the community and alumni.
