Two lucky students will soon be the happy recipients of a Brookhaven College scholarship, thanks to the college’s Career Development Center.
At its Fall Career Fair last week, the CDC offered attendees the chance to win two $300 scholarships toward Brookhaven College tuition. This week, the CDC staff will randomly choose the winners and alert them via phone, e-mail and snail mail.
This is the second set of scholarships the CDC has awarded. Two were given out at this summer’s Bilingual Job Fair. The winners were MarySol Hernandez and Jorge Martinez.
Jorge said he put the scholarship toward his tuition this semester, and with the leftover cash, he was able to buy textbooks for the first time. He plans to transfer to the University of North Texas in the spring and work toward a degree in business marketing.
For MarySol, the scholarship meant she could afford the piano course she’d been dreaming of taking. A dual credit high school student, MarySol aspires to be a music therapist.
Annette Wilson, director of the CDC, said the center plans to give away scholarships at every career fair.
