Campus just got a little safer.
On Nov. 2, Building M became the first building on campus to use the Electronic Access Card System, essentially allowing all doors in the building to lock remotely in the event of a campus emergency or lockdown.
Mary Lou Avera, management program professor, teaches in Building M.
“It's nice to know that they can flip a switch and lock all the doors on campus if needed,” she said.
Any employees who uses one of Building M’s 23 classrooms must use a photo I.D. badge to open and close the doors. The new system eliminates the need for keys.
Cards are coordinated by the division deans; the Brookhaven College Police Department produces the cards and manages classroom access codes.
Eventually, all campus buildings will use the access card system. If you have questions or concerns, contact Barbara Szabo at bSzabo@dcccd.edu or 972-860-4190.
