The Brookhaven College Lady Bears Volleyball team took second at nationals after a hard fought series against the Ridgewater Warriors on Nov. 13.
The Bears were ranked No. 1 going into the tournament and were hoping for a "three-peat" as National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Champions. The team from Ridgewater College in Wilmar, Minn., was seeded in second place going into the tournament.
The Warriors won the first and final two sets in the championship match; 25-23, 21-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 16-14. These two teams have almost traded the championship title back and forth with Brookhaven College winning in 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009, and the Ridgewater team winning in 2002, 2006 and again this year.
The season may not have ended as they wished, but it didn't disappoint for the team either. For the seventh year, the team won the Metro Athletic Conference, along with the seventh regional title and their second undefeated season in the conference. Two Lady Bear sophomores, Brandi Barber and Sarah Terry, and freshman Megan Muncy were named to the All-Tournament team.
