Our student organizations have been busy this month helping others, throwing holiday parties and honoring their heritage.
The Hispanic Heritage Club created an altar
to celebrate Dia de los Muertos.
Members of the Hispanic Heritage Club and many students from Humanities and Cultural Studies classes have created an altar in honor of Dia de los Muertos – Day of the Dead.
Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican holiday that honors loved ones who have died.
The altar, located in Building L, was started last month. Students and employees have been adding to it as time has gone by.
The Phi Theta Kappa honors society now operates an on-campus food pantry to help students in need. All food for the pantry was provided through donations and from funds from a PTK parking spot raffle earlier this year.
Sheri Van Court, ESOL professor and PTK advisor, helps run the pantry.
Assistance is confidential and open to Brookhaven College students and employees in need.
If you need assistance or would like to donate, contact Sheri at sVanCourt@dcccd.edu.
On Oct. 28, members of the Brookhaven Student Government Association hosted A Night Of Horrors, a campus-wide Halloween party, in the Commons Courtyard and T Building Annex.
The bash included food, drinks, entertainment and, of course, lots of costumes. Admission was only $2.
