Police Add Municipal Citations to Traffic Tools

Brookhaven College police officers can now write tickets
on behalf of the city of Farmers Branch.

Brookhaven College police officers are now authorized to issue city citations, in addition to college citations, on campus.

As of Feb. 1, BHC police officers can write citations on behalf of the City of Farmers Branch. The agreement was reached with the Farmers Branch Municipal Court giving college police to issue city citations. Th agreement is meant to reduce the number of on-campus infractions for driving without a license or insurance, parking in fire lines and handicap spaces, and leaving unattended children in vehicles.

Lt. John Klingensmith said the police do not plan to use the citations often, but they will issue a citation for multiple, repeated or serious offenses.

Dr. Richard D. McCrary, interim president, hope college staff members will set the standard for students.

"I encourage our employees to continue setting the example for our students by obeying all traffic laws on or off campus," he said.
