Student Success Story: Recent Grad heads to Cornell

Student Success Story: Recent Grad heads to Cornell

Niels Hansen headed to Cornell this semester after
getting his start at Brookhaven College.

Recent Brookhaven College graduate Niels Hansen has achieved one of his life’s dreams; he’s going to Cornell University.

This spring, Niels will begin classes in Cornell’s Hotel Administration program – the No. 1 program of its kind in the country.

"Going to Cornell University has always been a dream for me," Niels said.

Niels aspires to become a professional hotelier and an operations manager or general manager of resort properties. He notes Cornell’s rigorous Hotel Administration curriculum, Ivy League status and networking opportunities as reasons why its always been his top choice.

"I plan to meet several future business partners while attending this program," Niels said.

Niels credits Brookhaven College for helping his achieve his successes.

"The support I had from the faculty, dean and student development center helped me achieve the many things I accomplished while attending Brookhaven College," Niels said. "My professors pushed and motivated me to the best of my abilities."

He continued: “I loved the many courses I took, along with the highly educated professors who inspired me to achieve my full potential."

One of those professors was Ahad Hayaud-Din, political science professor. Ahad taught Niels for both GOVT 2301 and GOVT 2301.

Ahad called Niels "one of the brightest young people I have had the pleasure to work with."

Niels is "just a reminder why we get up in the morning to do the good work we all do," Ahad said.

As for achieving similar success, Niels has a little advice for current students.

"It's important to tell yourself you’re going to succeed even before you arrive at any college," he said. "The mentality you have about college will only carry over into your career. So set your sights on what you want to do, and go make it happen!"
