A walk down the red carpet, with the paparazzi snapping pictures of guests and appearances by stars like Judy Garland and Diana Ross were just a few of the effects that Mountain View College used to make the Dallas County Community College District Awards Ceremony a special night for awardees.
Almost all of Brookhaven College’s honorees were able to attend the event. This year, Beverly Neu Menassa, Virginia Clemente, Shirley Walker and Christy Neher took home the 2010-2011 DCCCD Jean Sharon Griffith Student Development Leadership Award. Brookhaven College professional counselors were recognized for creating the SkillsShops series of student seminars and implementing a variety of workshops and staff development opportunities.
“It is an honor to be nominated,” may seem like a trite phrase, but for those who were invited to the celebration of this year’s district awards, it was nice to be able to gather with friends and co-workers from across the district and have fun.
Brookhaven's nominees for the district awards were: Ann Cortez, PSS Employee of the Year; Christi Carter, Piper Professor nominee; Doris Rousey, Administrator of the Year; Charlie Warnberg, Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching; Melinda Franklin, WCE Instructor of the Year; the Counseling Center, Griffith Award for Student Development Leadership; Deborah Berry, Part-time Employee of the Year; and the Electrical Retrofit Project, Innovation of the Year. In addition, Linda Lee, director of professional development, was part of a District Office team nominated for Innovation of the Year for the Staff Enrichment System for Recording Training.
