Beginning Aug. 29, Brookhaven College will have a new smoking policy that eliminates the smoking areas within the campus buildings.
The Extended President's Cabinet, in consultation with the Police Department, decided to create a smoke-free campus environment, and this new policy applies to all employees, students and visitors.
All Brookhaven College campus buildings and grounds are non-smoking areas with the exceptions of six parking lots designated for smokers.
The only areas where smoking is permitted are the following parking lots:
How will the Smoking Policy be enforced? Anyone noticing an individual who is smoking in a non-smoking area may inform the subject(s) of the smoke-free policy and refer them to one of the designated parking lots, or contact the College Police at 972-860-4290.
When an individual who is smoking in a non-smoking area is observed by a college police officer, the officer shall inform the smoker of the policy and request him/her to relocate to one the designated parking lots.
Should an individual continue to violate the smoking policy after being advised by a police officer that he/she is in violation, the following actions may occur:
