Recyclemania…..what’s that? It’s a friendly competition among college and university recycling programs across America and Canada. During an eight-week period each spring, schools compete to reduce waste, increase recycling and raise awareness of conservation issues with employees and students across campus.
Brookhaven College has registered for this year’s competition. Eligibility is open to all secondary institutions of higher learning that are degree-granting colleges with on-site learning facilities.
There are four primary categories that make up the competition. The categories are Grand Champion, Gaski Classic, Waste Minimization and Gorilla Prize. The BHC Green Team has selected to participate in the Gaski Classic category. Schools compete in this category to measure how much a campus can collect of paper, cardboard, bottles and cans.
The 2012 Recyclemania tournament will run this Spring from Feb. 5 to March 31. There will be a two-weel pre-tourney event starting on Jan. 22 and ending on Feb. 5.
Please assist in our effort, and deposit single-stream items (paper, aluminum cans and plastic bottles) into the blue tubs in classrooms or the recycle stations that are placed throughout our campus. Additional tubs are located in division and department offices. Facilities Services will weigh and measure all the recyclables and relay that data to the Recyclemania headquarters.
Thanks for making recycling an important initiative on this campus.
