Kevin Tran, part-time instructional associate in biology, was taken by surprise the morning of May 9 when Elizabeth Whatley and a team of students visited him at the Biology Resource Center in Bldg. X.
It wasn’t just any visit: Elizabeth brought the students in her speech class so they could publically show Kevin their appreciation for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Each semester Elizabeth’s class nominates and ultimately votes on a Brookhaven College employee who stands out and puts forth extra effort to ensure student success. The course’s final exam is a public speech to that employee – in this case, Kevin.
In addition to each student’s kind words, Kevin was also rewarded with handmade cards, original poems, candy, photos and other crafts from the students.
“You guys made my day,” he said to the class. “I’ve gotten to know some of you personally, and I know you all are going to go on and do great things.”
Kevin will soon leave his work at the college to begin graduate school, but is grateful for the time spent here, he said.
