The rigors associated with life and work can be an overwhelming burden on employees, but through a district assistance program, help is available.
The Deer Oaks Employee/Dependent Assistance Program, free to district employees, offers public and short-term counseling and work/life services.
Through the district’s EDAP, employees have access to short-term counseling and diagnostic assessments; financial, legal or health-plan referrals; prevention/education resources; and crisis intervention. Recognizing the unique challenges of supervisory positions, the plan also includes training sessions tailored specifically to managers’ needs.
Employees and their dependents can take advantage of six pre-paid counseling sessions per problem incident – unlimited incidents per year, said Carla Peacock, assistant director of Human Resources.
Deer Oaks’ multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, psychological associates, psychiatric nurses and licensed professional counselors are trained to assist employees with behavioral health difficulties.

All calls made to Deer Oaks, as well as all services rendered, are completely confidential, according to Carla. “Deer Oaks does not report to the DCCCD that a particular individual is using the service,” she said.
