Like family, we know how to come together when it matters most.
To help ease the financial burden of a colleague on leave after a recent car accident, the college community rallied, raising more than $700.
Jamie Jenkins, coordinator of Corporate and Continuing Education, and more than two dozen employees prepared homemade goods and sold them at a bake sale June 7.
The spread included brownies, cakes, cookies, dessert breads, muffins, pies, pudding and more, and in enough quantity to cause concern that not everything would sell, Jamie said.
Needless to say, everything sold.
The goods sold out within 45 minutes, an hour and 15 minutes before the sale was scheduled to end. Employees, anxious to donate to the cause, began lining up five minutes early.
"Almost all employees refused their change," Jamie said, and many donated additional cash to the donation jar.
Ellen Solomon, division secretary for Physical Education, Athletics and Nutrition, is "out of the hospital but still has a long road of recovery ahead of her," according to an email from Jamie.
Big thanks to all who helped organize the event, as well as to those who donated.
