Join the Office of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement for two volunteer opportunities this month.
North Texas Food Bank
Volunteers will travel to the North Texas Food Bank location off Cockrell Hill Oct. 20 to help sort and box food for distribution. The afternoon of service will last from 12:45-3:30 p.m.
Bus transportation to and from the NTFB will be provided to the first 50 volunteers who register. Students and staff riding on the bus will need to meet at the college by 11:45 a.m. in order to depart by noon.
The maximum capacity for this service opportunity is 70 volunteers, and as of Tuesday, 27 slots were still available, according to Andrew Deibert, Service Learning and Community Engagement coordinator. Register today!
Make a Difference Day
Can’t make it to the food bank this weekend? Service-Learning is offering another volunteer opportunity Oct. 27 for the national Make a Difference Day. Organized by Chukwuka "John" Umeojiako, Service-Learning student, the day includes three service opportunities through Brookhaven College.
Volunteers can choose from one of these three options:
Brookhaven Head Start
9 a.m.-noon, Brookhaven College Head Start Center
Clean the playground and learning garden for the Brookhaven College Head Start program.
11 a.m.-4 p.m., Brookhaven College, Student Services Center
Spend time with kids from homeless shelters while creating posters and preparing to cheer on our Lady Bears volleyball team in the conference championship game.
Madison Senior Source
2-4 p.m., Madison Senior Source
Improve the quality of life of the center's senior residents as you engage in fun activities like B.I.N.G.O. and arts and crafts.
Transportation will be provided from Brookhaven College to the Madison Senior Source for those who volunteer for that opportunity. Limited space is available for each project, so register today!
