The Open Book Project finished its last chapter for the fall 2012 semester with an art contest revolving around this year's selected book, "In the Sea There are Crocodiles."
Participants were asked to recreate a scene or explore a concept from the book and design a book cover. Students as well as staff were encouraged to enter.
A total of 25 entries were received by the Nov. 15 deadline. First, second and third places were awarded Follett Bookstore gift cards, and honorable mention received Starbucks gift cards.
Judging the entries were Lisa Ehrich, art instructor and Brookhaven College School of the Arts department chair, and Wes Smith, visual communications instructor. Criteria such as concept, design, creativity, presentation and professionalism were all taken into consideration.
The Open Book Project is a common reader initiative designed to bring the Brookhaven College community together. A new book is selected each academic year.
