Read/Succeed Volunteers Needed

Read/Succeed Volunteers Needed

Now that the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan, QEP, has been approved by the SACSCOC committee, it’s on to Stage 2.

Program Testing

The QEP committee needs faculty volunteers willing to put its new reading improvement program, Read/Succeed, to the test in Spring 2013. The program seeks to improve students’ reading skills and comprehension by applying a series of tips and strategies in the classroom.

The pilot program begins in February with a pre-assessment given to students in participating classes. Instructors will then add the program’s reading strategies in their day-to-day teachings and attend periodic meetings throughout the semester to discuss the program’s progress. The Read/Succeed test-run will conclude at the end of the semester with a post-assessment.

The committee plans to publish a link in eCampus, aptly named “Reading: The App For Life,” with tools from the Read/Succeed program as early as March. Professional development will also be available to instructors needing guidance on how to implement the reading strategies in the classroom.

If you’re interested in participating in the Read/Succeed pilot group, please contact Anna Masters, secretary II, Communications Division, and QEP chair, at aMasters@dcccd.edu or Ext. 4624.

The Spring 2013 pilot group will pave the way for the formal rollout in Fall 2013.
