RecycleMania, a nationwide collegiate recycling competition, is in its final few weeks. Here’s a recap of our standings and an appeal to keep the ball rolling.
Competing in only our second year, we are currently ranked No. 254 of 311 participating colleges, with an average weight of 2.737 lbs. of recyclables collected per person. Among District colleges, we're holding strong at No. 2 behind Richland (No. 90), but ahead of Eastfield (No. 271), Mountain View (No. 289), North Lake (No. 313) and Cedar Valley (No. 323). Among the 27 two-year colleges in the running, we're in the Top 10 at No. 8.
We’re holding our own, and there’s still time to push ahead. With spring break only a few days away, we have a great opportunity to finish strong before the competition’s March 30 deadline: over the break, collect all your recyclable waste (junk snail-mail, soda cans, sauce jars and more), and recycle it at the college when you return Monday. Then throughout the return week, continue your efforts while on campus.
Brookhaven College is competing in ReycleMania’s Per Capita Classic, which ranks colleges based on the amount of paper, cardboard, bottles and cans collected, divided by the college’s population. The competition commenced Feb. 3 and ends March 30.
Let’s see what we can do to help the planet!
