Students Earn Top Honors

Students Earn Top Honors

Our students are talented, and by talented, we mean...WOW.

This month two college groups earned top recognition among their peers. Congratulations to them and to their staff advisors!

Phi Theta Kappa Earns Stellar Reviews

The Brookhaven College Alpha Delta Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa turned heads at this year’s regional and international conventions and deserves to be recognized!

The chapter received the coveted Five-Star Chapter Award at last month’s regional convention in Austin, Texas, as well as at this month's international convention in San Jose, Calif. All chapter officers completed the Five-Star Competitive Edge Honors Program, and as an added bonus, the Texas Region was nominated as the Most Outstanding Region during the international convention.

Our dedicated staff didn’t miss out on recognition, either. George Herring, vice president of business services, received the Distinguished Administrator Award, and Sheri Van Court, world languages professor, came home with the Distinguished Advisor Award.

Brookhaven Courier Wins Big at TIPA

Brookhaven College students came home big winners from the 2013 Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Convention April 4-6, held in Fort Worth. The convention brings together student media from two- and four-year public and private institutions throughout the state.

This year, Kathy Tran and Scott Mitchell earned first place in the 2-Person Photo Essay live competition, which takes place at the convention. Tran also won an honorable mention in On-site Print Advertisement, and Amy Price earned an honorable mention in Critical Review.

The Brookhaven Courier staff earned additional honors, with first-place awards going to Obed Manuel for News Feature Story; Kathy Tran and Jordan Wylie for Newspaper Illustration; and Wylie for Single Subject Presentation Design. Price earned a third-place award for General Column, and the entire staff won an honorable mention for Special Edition or Section.
