From events to projects to non-profits, the biannual Civic Engagement Showcase May 1 featured students' volunteer efforts in fun, creative ways.
Thirty students presented 14 displays for the showcase, which is organized by the Office of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement. Participants highlight ways they were able to use their time, resources and influence to address community needs or areas of concern.
The event is also a competition for students. Awards and prizes are presented for submissions that effectively reflect details about their community partner, display personal growth through service, show academic learning, share the impact on the community and discuss any challenges and rewards.
Most Innovative Project went to "Got Nutrition?" by Yuleana Rodriguez, Erin Townsend and Scarlet Spencer; Most Creative went to "Healthy Family Day" by Stevenie Ray, Doneil Smith and Stacey Williams; and Best Overall and People's Choice went to "Take 10 and Get Active" by Angela Dundas and Kimberley Witzel.
Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to all the participants for their time and service!
